Safeguarding is about creating a nurturing and protective environment for children and vulnerable adults, ensuring their well-being and safety.
The Church in Wales is deeply committed to safeguarding as an integral part of its values, mission, and ministry. We strive to:
- Foster the overall well-being and holistic development of children and vulnerable adults.
- Raise awareness and promote a culture of care and protection within our church community.
- Proactively implement measures to prevent any form of harm or mistreatment.
- Respond with compassion, sensitivity, and appropriate support to those who have experienced any form of abuse or neglect.
Our commitment to safeguarding is rooted in our belief in the inherent dignity of every human being and our desire to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing space for all.
To foster a nurturing and safe environment, the Church in Wales requires all clergy, churchwardens, licensed readers, vergers, Ministry Area Council members, Ministry Area safeguarding officers, and anyone whose role involves working with children, young people, and vulnerable adults to complete Module B: Understanding Safeguarding in the Church. The training aims to enhance awareness and equip individuals with the necessary knowledge to ensure the well-being of our community. The training is to be renewed every three years, and Module B typically takes approximately 2½ hours to complete.
Additionally, Module C: Safeguarding and Leadership is designed for MA Leaders, Safeguarding Officers, Chairs, and Members. This module aims to deepen understanding of safeguarding practices and guidance while exploring the characteristics of healthy Church communities and the positive impact of good safeguarding behaviours. Module C typically requires approximately 3 hours to complete.
